Visit of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation to the residential colony in Toshka
Statement issued by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation:
Dr. Sweilem inspects the "South Valley Development Project," the giant pumping station in Toshka, and the construction of the residential colony on the Sheikh Zayed Canal.
Dr. Sweilem:
- Directs the ministry's departments to continue coordinating with the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces and the National Service Projects Organization to complete the project works according to the established timetables.
- Directs a study of the SCADA system's requirements for modern technology to connect with all project components, and to explore activating the existing SCADA system and what is needed to operate it.
- Directs the swift handover of the irrigation and mechanical colonies as soon as possible and the resolution of any obstacles or points of contention with the companies by the end of May 2026.
During his visit to Aswan Governorate on Saturday, April 25, 2026, His Excellency Professor Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, inspected the progress of the "South Valley Development Project," the giant pumping station in Toshka that supplies the project with water, and the construction of the residential complex for the Irrigation Authority at kilometer 50 on the Sheikh Zayed Canal. Dr. Sweilem emphasized his commitment to monitoring the implementation of all development projects across the country firsthand, given their crucial role in supporting the national economy, creating job opportunities for young people, and bolstering food security. He directed the relevant departments within the Ministry to maintain close coordination with the Armed Forces Engineering Authority and the National Service Projects Organization to ensure the timely completion of all required works for the South Valley Development Project. During his visit to the giant Toshka station, Dr. Sweilem inspected the pump rooms, electric motors, transformers, operating panels, electrical panels, the maintenance center, and the monitoring, control, and operation center (SCADA system), which controls the operation and shutdown of the station's pump units, in addition to other operating modes to ensure the safe operation of the pump units, as well as monitoring any malfunctions in the pump units, motors, and their associated equipment, and issuing periodic reports on the operation process and monitoring operating hours and water quantities.

Dr. Sweilem directed a study of the requirements for integrating the SCADA system with the South Valley Development Project, including modern technology and all project components, and for expediting the activation of the existing system and conducting a detailed study of its status. The giant Toshka pumping station is one of the largest in the world in terms of the number of units and the volume of water discharged. It pumps water into the Sheikh Zayed Canal and then to its four branches, with a total length of approximately 250 kilometers. The station consists of an intake canal approximately 4.5 kilometers long and with an average depth of 40 meters, a suction basin, a pump room, pipelines and a discharge basin, and attached pumping stations for drinking water, wastewater treatment, emergency power generation, and workshop buildings. During his visit to the Irrigation Authority's residential colony, Dr. Sweilem instructed the ministry's departments to expedite the handover of the irrigation and mechanical colonies from the implementing company and to resolve any outstanding issues or points of contention with the companies by the end of May 2026.
