The Minister of Planning, the Minister of Agriculture, and the Governor of Aswan inspect the Wadi Al-Sa'ida canal.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, accompanied by Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Major General Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan, conducted a field visit to inspect the rehabilitation and lining works of the internal irrigation canals in the village of Amr Ibn Al-Aas, as well as the agricultural drain in the villages of Al-Ashraf and Al-Samaha, as part of the Wadi Al-Saida project in Edfu Center.
The visit comes within the framework of the state's efforts to enhance the efficiency of water resource use and support sustainable agricultural development. The ministers and the governor were briefed on the project's implementation status.
Project officials explained that the drain development is being carried out in two phases, totaling 5,300 meters in length, at a total cost of 70 million Egyptian pounds. The first phase included the completion of 2,400 meters, and the second phase 2,900 meters, with a completion rate of 98%. This has directly contributed to improving the quality of agricultural land and protecting homes from the risks of flooding and collapse. This is under the supervision of the Sustainable Agricultural Investments Project, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), with the aim of improving irrigation efficiency, reducing water loss, and increasing agricultural productivity.
The ministers and the governor emphasized that these projects are being implemented in accordance with the directives of the political leadership to support small farmers, achieve sound water management, and improve the efficiency of agricultural infrastructure, which will positively impact the standard of living for citizens and contribute to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development goals in the governorates of southern Egypt.
